Well its been a long time since i have been on here but i have had a problem with my transmition. i was heading into work one day and something in the driveline locked up. i pulled it to the side of the road then restarted it let out on the clutch and just started to smoke the clutch like something behined it was the problem. well i called for a ride and left my truck on the side of the interstate and went to work whn i went back with a truck and trailer i had to put the transfer case into nutrual to winch it up. when i got it home i fired it up and tried to self diagnose and seemed that now thats its home its not locked up anymore but now only 4th gear works. all other gears make a weird grinding/rough metal on rough metal sound. could this just be the syncros or worse and what would be the price on that kinda of repair. dont want to spend alot of money because i have some differnt plans for the ruck later but want it to still drive for now.. thnks
is ths a cheap repair? is this something an orderinary joe could do??? thanks all
It's not too expensive if you remove and install it yourself if you have a floor jack and a few basic hand tools........and some patience. The shift forks are not serviceable without complete dis-assembly.
This may add to the expense though,.....while you are in there...are you going to re-install the old clutch? If it's the original DMF flywheel, now is a good time to replace it with an aftermarket SMF flywheel.
thanks jim i am not sure if i want to go with the clutch install cause i am just wanting to get it going again because i hate being down a truck and just in my car. which blows and i dont mean smoke haha i plan on trying to install a international DT466 been doing alot of research so thought i would put it in my shop and do a little at a time. starting with body work and a paint job. i don know just kinda play it by ear. thanks guys
