Here's the setup. At the drive-in (yup we still have one), double feature. Sound plays through the stereo. Between features I want to start the truck to keep the battery charged. Can't turn the lights off, everyone is honking at me. Is there a way to turn the headlights off with the engine running? Can't find anything in the book. Guy next to me says to put the emergency brake on with the lights in the big O selection. Doesn't work. Honking gets worse. Had to shut it down to avoid a lynching.

Auto
Daytime running (big O)

I'd go with Tylus here... The DRL relay is the simplest...
For what its worth, I was wanting to get the OEM DRL set-up on my truck. I just never ordered the kit from my parts people. I'll have to keep this scenario in mind before I make the plunge.
On a side note:
Tylus what browser are you using that's not allowing you to access the Motorcraft PDF links?
You Must Be Lost ? This is a 04-08 F-150 Ford Forum not Chevy.......LOL
I never realized Ford had day time running lights on any of there models ?????
Damn, thing says Ford all over it. 5.4 Triton and all. Don't know if you'd call 'em running lights or not, but my Ford Owners guide calls em Day Time Running Lamps, bottom paragraph of page 92. They just come on when it's in the O postion, but they aren't near as bright as when it's in the "On" or "auto" position. Sure appreciate you not having any usable information though.
My browser pulls up .PDF files just fine. But if you haven't visited the Motorcraft site recently, their links don't work. You have to have a recent cookie to be able to pull up a link like Shorebird posted...sucks, but not that hard to get around.
For the OP: so you truck is either a Canada spec'd truck, or it's like my Expy. Somebody at the Dealership ordered it with the DRL Kit.
There is no way to turn off your DRL. You have to pull the DRL fuse. Follow the link above and pull up your Owners Manual
it was on page 306 when I was looking. Had a schematic of the fuse panel and even showed the relay.
Shouldn't the DRL feature only operate the Fog lights... not the headlights.
taken from manual:
Daytime running lamps (DRL) (if equipped)
Turns the foglamps on at full intensity output. To activate:
• the ignition must be in the ON position and
• the headlamp control must be in the OFF, parking lamps or autolamp
position.
I have the same issue with the headlights. They are always on... no matter what position the switch is in.
my old 150 is an '05, I can shut mine running lights off, obviously you guys can not, but if you only watching a movie or two....why worry about charging the battery? I have a co-worker who pulls his '07 up and leaves the radio on for 4-5 hours to a rip, twice a day, regularly. sometimes it goes 8 hours if he forgets and leaves it on if we go for lunch with my truck. starts ever time.
