I have pretty much come to the conclusion that my E4OD needs rebuilt. Not that it will be done right away, but how much does a rebuild normally cost for these transmissions?
I went through this in 1997 and then it cost me $1000 for a bench job- meaning I pulled it and carried it up there, went back, got it and installed it myself. That cuts down on labor costs considerably. I've heard of people paying as much as 2000 or 2500 for a drive-in rebuild- but I suspect that was a bit atypical.
I don't have any idea what one might cost now. Just pick up the phone and do some calling. Most places are glad to talk to you and give you an idea of price. If the Transmission shops there are anything like the ones here, you'll have really good ones and really bad ones. Do some asking around before you choose one. Quality doesn't always cost more, but it's always worth paying for.
Good luck.

Sorry about that. The way my dad is I never thought about a so-called "drive-in rebuild." He has a good shop where he takes that type of stuff. I guess I'll have to get ahold of somebody there. When my dad had his C6 rebuilt a couple of years ago it cost something like $600 and I thought it would probably be more than that. Thanks for your reply.
