How much should it cost to rebuild an AOD? Is it worth it? Should I get a new one? Or should I dig one out of a junkyard? Is 1200$ too much for a new trans.&t-conv. w/ 3 year warr.
what year bronco are you driven. you can get a well built AOD with 4r70w gearset for that much shipped. I will have a used one soon were are you located
I rebuilt the AOD in my 88 Bronco for around $350 including the TransGo Shift kit. I bought a repair manual and did it myself. It was the first tranny I have ever rebuilt but it was straight forward. I got all Borg Warner clutches and kevlar O/D and reverse bands. If you are good at taking things apart and putting them back together try doing it yourself. There are some pictures of my rebuild in my gallery.
I got a Haynes manual for Ford AOD's from Amazon. I think it was around $15. It was great, full of pictures and detail. I also took a bunch of pictures with my digital camera while tearing it down so I could remember the order things came apart. I never messed around with the video's so I am not sure of them.
