Look for the 4.30 gears. Plenty low enough, bit better mpg and the full 350bhp/650lb ft. 4.88 trucks (no longer avail) were detuned to 325.

Did it make much of a difference in the mileage?

YES, emty I was getting 8 to 9 MPG, After gear change I get 12 to 13. I wouidn't have changed gears if the truck came with 4:30 gears.

The only issue I have seen is with the 6.4 diesel engine. Take it with a grain of salt though.

If you are looking at a gasser (I assume they put the V10 in there) there is less to read about drivetrain problems.

Being a 6.4 owner, I have nearly 100,000 miles on mine and it's the best motor I have tried so far. Lots of people are real quick to try to tag the motor as a dud and folks (myself included) run to their computers and tell all about their terrible troubles.

Warranty issues other than drivetrain? I don't recall anything on these messeage boards. I think somebody had trouble with some water leakage from the window seals. The tow-command system had a quirk in 08 but should be fixed. Some 08's had some kind of an a/c issue. Give the TSB/Recall section a read and you'll see the typical TSB type stuff for a new generation vehicle.

I'm sure the payload for camper rating has to do with the center of gravity. Air bags rock.

Hi haywoodphoto, we've chatted before. I have an '08 F-450 and carry a Lance 1191 camper and tow my 21' Triton boat. I have just turned 21,000 miles and have had no problems. It has turned out to be a great rig.

Ah- I just thought of my only complaint... It is hell to air up the inner rear dual tires. I run 75 psi empty and 100 with the camper. The trouble is that the Ford 19.5 wheels have small holes that you have to get the chuck through. Yes, I have a dual foot chuck. Sometimes it is faster and easier to remove the outer wheel just to air up (or down) the inner one. I looked into the flexible extensions, but couldn't get any of them to work, so I just take my time and cuss a little. Also, every tire dealer will tell you that the inner and outer valve stems should be opposite each other. I noticed that mine were together, you filled both through the same access hole. So Ii jacked up the truck and took off the outer wheel and rotated it. But the only hole the inner stem will line up with is the same one that the outer stem is in. So back to the way they came from the factory. Oh well.

In spite of that, I love the truck.
