you will need to go down the pass side 2 1/4" would pipes would work just make sure
who ever does it for you lets you watch while its up on the hoist so you can keep an
eye on clearance around trans /bell houseing ect the fellow that did mine had to rebend
the pipe 3 times as i was not happy with how close he was to the rear fuel line comeing
off the front of the tank [just what no one needs a fuel fire] if you exit out the side before the rear wheels it will be noiseier over the axel and out the back will tone it down a bit [my trucks have both ways] at my age i pefer quiet headers aslo would be a good add on if funds allow regurds joe
Should not matter whether 2 or 4 wheel drive.....pipes should be routed away from fuel lines and midship tank. On my rig, drivers side pipe comes off header, makes a jog behind trans case and runs parallel to driveline, over rear axle and exits behind tires. I had them make a break in the LH pipe right behind the trans case to facilitate removal of transmission and TX case when I have to replace clutch. If the shop will allow it, yeah, watch them as they bend pipe and fit check it. Also agree with the 2 1/4" dia. I had 2 1/4.....
thought 2 1/2" would flow better, but no. I think I actually hurt performance.
Mr. Kennewick......I only know of one place with tha name.......I grew up in Pasco. (bought my truck there too!)
Yep Kennewick WA. Hydros next week. Already in the 100's.
I asked about the duals as the single pipe runs inside the frame rail on the passenger side. But the Driver side is the side tank. If they re fit duals do they run the 2 pipes out side the frame rails or next to each other inside the rail on the passenger side? And thanks about the Dia that would have been my next question. Thanks guys for the Ideas.

Reason: Need
I only do true duals if I can route one pipe down each side of the truck so the pipes can be equal length. I have true duals on my 74' with one pipe down each side but I have the rear fuel tank. If I were you I would come off each manifold into a smooth transitioning Y-pipe and run a single pipe from there. If the single is properly sized it should give you some extra low to mid torque which is nice for trucks. But if you want the dual exhaust look you can use a SIDO muffler.
Thinking of the possibility of removing the side tank. I wont be putting alot of miles on this truck and the extra gas will just get old anyway. This will open it up for duals.
Removing the said tank may be the best idea. I did the same thing on a 1988 F150 so that I could run dual exhaust. I was very happy with the exhaust but that rear tank went quick. LMC sells a kit that you can convert your current pump and sending unit and use a 38 gallon tank in the rear. I was going to go that route but ended up trading the truck for a 78 F150. The kit was reasonably priced for including a new gas tank.
I have 2 1/4 out of manifold into 2 in 2 out flomaster positioned with one pipe above the other with resonators .It gradually increases in size to 3" out the side in front of the bumper . It was expensive but it runs and sounds better .
I just took some measurements. My frame rails are 29.5 apart, I have about 16in between mid tank and inside of pass.frame. Both pipes run inside frame rails and driveline. I have roughly 2in gap between pipe and driveline. Sounds like a tight fit, but I've never had a problem in the last 22yrs I've had duals. Most muffler shops can figure out the best way to route the pipes so it looks good and doesn't cause any interference issues. Also., Im aware that some trucks have frame rails that are closer or wider apart, I cant remember which. I dont think its necessary to get rid of the tank when you dont need to. I have 2 tanks, and rarely use the aft tank. Once in awhile I'll put a splash of gas in it just to make sure everything is kosher. Even with our "marine" climate here, I havent had any problms. SOooo....thats my story and I'm stickin to it!
Yeah....wish I could have went to the races.....settled for watching it on the internet. KNDU webcast the Columbia Cup, so Im appeased for now. I'll get to watch Seafair live. (unless I decide to go get my free ticket.)Depends on if i want to deal with parking and having to walk a mile for a beer.
I have 3 4x4's w/ duals, #1..78 f150 w/ 2 1/4 duals run up p/s side and splits after fwd tank into dual behind both tires, truck runs and sounds great...#2 79 f250 super cab w/ dual tanks, 2 1/2 exhaust exits collectors, turns outboard frame to parallel frame w/ cats and flow masters, runs/sounds great and gets better mpg's than 150 ..#3 77 crew w/ headers and dual that come off headers and into mufflers and exit under bed...from prior owner, runs/sounds great, just not a wise option, between the 2 1/4 nad the 2 1/2, I personally could tell the difference in the performance, but the 2 1/2 w/ the exhaust outside the frame rails gets the best mpg's
