strange pull - control arm bushings?

new member here

i've been chasing my tail with my 98 expy 2wd, 221,000 mi. i thought i had a front brake problem. it pulls left when braking. i have turned the rotors, replaced pads/flex lines/calipers, bled lines. it still pulls left (turns steering wheel left) when driving forward, now pulls the oposite when backing up (turns steering wheel right). does this sound like the control arm bushings?

were you getting fluid out of the right caliper when you bled them? sounds like you've got a line locked up on the right side.

It might also be the brake proportioning valve up at the brake resevoir.

Nope, it has to do with the front brake on the right side of the vehicle not working. Just because you have fluid flow, doesn't mean it will build pressure when braking.

Have you checked for a crimped or flattened metal brake line running to the right front caliper?

all brake lines are fine. now for the next part of this saga. i just returned from hauling a 2000# load 450 miles. the entire time the brakes worked perfectly. now, without any load, it brakes fine. could hauling that heavy load have "corrected" some problem? could i have had a problem in the abs module like a blockage that broke loose? other ideas?

my guess is that the right caliper wasn't sliding correctly, and with the heavy braking, it finally loosened up.

You said you just had the brakes done - did you do them yourself or was it a shop? Just making sure that you lubed up the caliper pins with a good lube - I usually use a good high temp (sometimes even high temp bearing / marine) grease instead of the crap that auto parts places sell with brakes.

If it was a shop that just did it, take it back to them and tell 'em to re-lube everything for you.

Only other thing I can think of is you had an air bubble and it finally worked it's way out of the system.

Keep an eye on it for a while but other than that I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sounds like it fixed itself.

Have you replaced your brake hoses? I had a Taurus a few years ago with problems similar to those described in this thread. After racking my brains out and replacing almost the entire braking system including master cylinder and vacuum booster I found an article suggesting to replace the brake hoses. I was somewhat skeptical however I had tried everything else. Being a relatively inexpensive part, I started with two hoses and it solved my problem.
