another I-75 DETOUR created
Michigan State Police say 27-year-old Saied Haidarian-Shahri of Clawson is responsible for a Wednesday night crash that led to a tanker truck explosion and eventual collapse of an overpass over Interstate 75.
The Detroit News reports that Haidarian-Shahri was a new driver and only had a Secretary of State-issued license since May. He had no previous violations, but was still on standard probation for three years -- a requirement for all new drivers.
Police also identified Jody Cicero as the driver of the Meijer truck, which was crushed by the overpass, and Michael St. John, driver of the tanker that exploded. None of the three were injured, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The quick thinking of the two truck drivers is what many are attributing to no drivers on I-75 being injured, witnesses say. Haidarian-Shahri was driving 70 mph along a 50 mph curve when he lost control and hit the tanker truck.
"The guy in the Meijer's vehicle observed what was going on, so he was making some arrangement to reposition his vehicle, so the tanker could reposition his vehicle to avoid things," Michigan State Trooper Charles Kemp said.
