My 300 motor has the old style fuel pump and I have googled and searched and called around to find one of those 'special tools' that Ford made but have had no luck. I wouldn't take much to tear up the cover.
Can anyone point me towards a source for one or share a tip on how to do it under the shade tree???
The original type filter cans had a huge octagon embossed in it...but typically, if the can is clean like that one appears to be you SHOULD be able to break it loose by hand on the 6 cylinders...just remember lefty loosey righty tighty as you are looking towards the threaded portion of the pump.
Those strap wrenches also work well on the OEM, single reservoir master brake cylinder "mason jar" style cap. A pipe wrench will get them off, but it will gouge or even crush them in the process. Here is what I use. I like to use the smaller one... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00945570000P
a small oil wrench... i use the oil wrench for my dodge stratus to help take the M.C. lid off... im sure if you could find one to fit the fuel filter... you will be able to take it off...
