Reverse was never right..and it appears something isn't right inside..
so, here I sit, in the transmission repair shop.. miss green with her bowels spread out on the workbench
waiting..
same shop as rebuilt it 2 yrs (and 18 miles ago).
just where did quality work go? engine and now transmission..
18 miles, eh? No wonder the tranny screwed up....it's worn out ! lol. Seriously tho, Gremlins often raise their ugly head with a vehicle that is completely custom / everything rebuilt and only 18 miles. Granted the workmanship should have been better on the Engine and Tranny. Things like loose Power Steering fittings, etc just have to work themselves out into the open with miles. There are very few people who have done a ground up-custom vehicle, got in it, and drove it across country (or county) without having a problem here or there. It'll all work out, Sam.
3rd gear clutch pack is burned up. they don't know why. 3rd is input to reverse on the C6. this WAS a brand new clutchpack (well, so they told me) in Sept 07 when rebuilt.
If reverse was not right to begin with it probably had a lip seal on the direct/reverse clutch pack damaged on assembly. It doesn't take much to bleed off the pressure and let it slip and it doesn't take much slipping to fry the discs.
Unfortunately one of the drawbacks to this hobby of ours is that there is sometimes a considerable amount of time between when we buy parts or have parts rebuilt and the actual time when we put them into service. In most cases, whatever warranty the manufacter gave has long passed leaving us out in the cold. Hopefully the tranny shop will stand behind their work even though so much time has passed.
Hopefully soon you will have all of the bugs worked out in your emerald beauty and will get down to some serious enjoyment
Success!!!.. we changed the valve body, and WOW what a difference..
it actually shifts, has solid reverse.. neat..
took it around the block.. stomped on it, kicked down nice..
stomped it again.. high revs, rear end broke loose.. WHOA BABY!!.. look in the rear view mirror (new).. and ah crap, water all over the road..!!!!
I bet we just blew out that new freeze plug we put in last week (when we did the exhaust) to replace the leaking one ..
sure enough.. crap..
they pick me up, (I left the truck on a side street alone) back with the trailer, and off to the muffler shop.. (tranny shop re-used the lift as soon as I did a thumbs up!..)
anyhow, wife brought me my stash of freeze plugs and we got it back in, solid this time, and refilled.. and running.. (and the tranny still works!)..
now back home, and shes back in the shop.
Phew! gonna let the RTV cure now.
Sam
(and the transmission shop only charged me for the R&R of the tranny, as the original was a carryin. no charge for the valve body. )
