I was lucky enough to get a hold of a 5.0 out of a 97 Explorer, and am considering carbureting it and putting it in a 1971 F-100. I would like to use the accessories from the explorer if possible. Is there any reason why I could not just run the lines from the steering column to the new PS pump and be OK? And does anyone know what I would need to do to wire in the alternator? It has a 3 prong plug...I don't know where the wires need to go, and the harness was not available with the motor.
Thanks a lot for any advise!
Yeah, I think I've got an old points distributor with a Crane Cams electronic conversion around somewhere. I can handle that one, but the alternator I'm still unclear on. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for that?
It's not the greatest resolution, and it's for a 1998 model year Explorer. I would expect your 1997 engine to be very similar. For the 5.0L it appear the White/Black wire is internal to the alternator, leaving only 3 exposed wires.
Yeah, that looks perfect! Thanks man. What would be the danger of eliminating the connection through the power sistribution box and going straight to battery?
There's a 30 amp fuse in the power distribution panel for that circuit and the battery lead to the panel has a 175 amp main fuse in the lead from the battery.
