trailer hitch questions

I hope someone can help me. I have a 2006 F350 super duty pickup. It did not come with a trailer hitch and I am going to install one. I have two questions.

1) Where is the 7-pin trailer connection located on this truck? I'm told it came standard on these models but I can't exactly find it. Behind the rear bumper, under the spare tire I can find a flat 4-pin connector and a round connector that has a cover on it that is stamped "Delphi". I'm not able to get this connector open although I have tried real hard yet. Is this "Delphi" connector the 7-pin? If so how does the cover come off?

2) What is the best brand of Hitch to use?

Thanks

I put an XDR classV on my truck, found it on eBay, was around $150, I think, the wires should be up under the rear of the bed, by the spare tire, should be a plug in.

i beleive you will find a adapter in the glove box to plug in a trailer braker controller. This should fit the factory wiring harness and then the plug as sonneborn3 said should be around the spare tire area.

Thanks for the hitch information. Do you know if the plug that says "Delphi" is the 7-pin?

Can you get pics of the "Delphi" plug? IIRC the bracket for the 7 pin is on the hitch on the 06, so it may be just tucked under there since you have no hitch. I'm guessing that it is the 7 pin, it may have some tape or something holding it shut.

I believe this is what you need to plug into the wiring harness connector:

This will give you the proper 7-way plug and mounting bracket.

I'm pretty sure that the Delphi plug that you are talking about is the female end of the plug in that you need for the 7 round plug. You'll need to get a 7 round connector with the correct male pigtail to match up.

Just another variation of what GregsSD showed: http://store.uhaul.com/Wiring__light...g_Kit_7_to_7_4

I know that most Uhauls around here also have the new OEM plugs off the new style 2008 and up Superdutys which I like a lot better.

Does my '08 250 come with a plug for the trailer controller, is it only for the factory controller, and where would it be on my truck? it came with a reciever hitch and both 4 and 7 pin hookups from the factory. Thanks.

I don't know about an '08, but I've always found the plug for the controller under the dash, driver's side, above your right knee. When you buy an off-the-shelf controller, you will also have to buy an adapter plug to match your vehicle. Good luck!

Then you should have the TBC already on the truck.

I'm not sure the '08s have a direct plug in for the wiring, but behind the cubby where the factory brake controller would be located, there should be the bundle of wires that you can tap into.

This is what I was looking for last night: http://store.uhaul.com/product_detail.aspx?id=7879 These are great for keeping corrosion and terminal failure down.

Nope, mine did not come with the tbc, and I checked on adding the factory one as a kit, and the dealer told me it was too much trouble, something about adding resistors and some other stuff, but I would prefer the factory one. I'm sure the hookups are there though, for the switches anyway. Does anyone know any different?
