2003 Aviator. Friend of mine has one, his handle assembly is broke and the dealer said he will have to replace the whole thing and its like 150 bucks. Im not sure exactly whats going on with it but i know he has the handle off of it cause it wont shift out of park without taking it off and doing it manually. Is there a cheaper place to buy parts? and can any of that be replaced without replacing the whole asembly? he said the dealer said you can only buy the assembly and not parts of it.
I feel for your friend, my shifter broke, becuase i did not step on the brake hard enough. I was told by the dealers in my area that it would cost $874.00, for the whole colum unit. The way the shifter handle is attached is a real joke. I am using a pair of vise grips to shift gears, while I am trying to get the cash to buy a used unit from a local junk yard, the cost is $200.00. You need to replace the whole unit. If the unit cost about $150, then please let me know how to get one.
ive been looking and havent found the paper. is there a site for ford like gm has (gmpartsdirect) that i can go to and look up the part and look at the illistration.
went on line, did not find a site that showed the part in question, looked in my manual, it only has a real dark /hard to see photo of the possible area of the shifter. if you come across the information, just send it, and this site will let me know . thanks
