sorry to read about your theft. of course, the thieves didn't want to take the tools, they would need to work to use them.
thats the thing i dont understand. there was literally tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff that they could have sold in no time. but they steal a 20 dollar lawn cart that i would have given to them for free if they needed it that badly. i could see them taking the cart if i had left it sitting out in my yard or something like that, but i cant imagine someone risking getting shot or arrested for a felony over something that stupid...... not too long ago someone tried to cut the lock off my trailer hitch with it parked in my driveway. they put more work into trying to steal a $15 part than if they would just get a job and buy it.
The typical thief is dumb.
Do you think they took inventory and will return for the more prized possessions?
i thought about that too. if they come back they will have a hard time getting inside though. ive got a car parked in front of every door lol. i found out what they used the lawn cart for. they took my freezer full of deer meat and an old chain saw that barely worked.
I just found and purchased a McGard Tailgate Lock model #76011.
I called McGard and someone told that it would not fit....probably just trying to get me off the phone. It fits fine, took about 5 minutes to install, can't be removed with any "standard" tools and I feel it offers more protection that the tailgate lock by Jimmi Jammers. You need a special shaped socket which looks pretty small and cheap but it does lock and unlock the nolt that holds the lock on.

Take a look at the McGard and post your thoughts.
the one you got actually makes sense to me. it has a special tool that only comes with that lock. so unless the thief carried around the tool for your specific lock he's not going to be able to get it off. the torx bit on the other one is about as common as a phillips screwdriver.
Update........I may have just saved my tail gate or maybe my whole truck.
I was in Walmart and I parked away from others in the lot about 3:00 in the afternoon. I came back out to find two "bad" guys looking into the bed of my truck by the tailgate. One had a tire iron in his hand (that he tried to hide) and when I approached..........they just started walking away and mumbled "nice truck".
I checked my truck and it was all OK. I tried to spot the the 2 guys and did see them get into a small silver car across the lot and go out a back entrance.
I notified the store manager and his "unstated" reaction was....."I'll note it but we have alot of similar problems even with the cameras"
I did end up installing a Dynolock electric tailgate lock a few weeks ago. Locks automatically with my keyless entry. Even if they punch out the keyhole, they still can't pull up on the tailgate handle because of the Dynolock pin. Combined with my Bakflip HD cover that doesn't have any exposed keyholes or latches, I now feel pretty secure.
The link to the 2009 part is now on the website at the bottom of the page. I also confirmed with them that it will work for the tailgate with the step. Ordered one today.
I chose the 04-up F150 lock, because the tailgate handles are exactly the same for 09. The lock was shipped directly from Dynolock, but they actually sent me one for a Sport Trac. The mounting holes lined up, but I had to bend the bracket slightly in order to make the locking pin line up with the handle lever. No big deal. If anyone orders through USAtruck, make sure they order you the correct part number.
