What needs to be done when you want to remove the tailgate on your own then? How hard of a process is it then?
The only thing the Jimmi Jammers do is prevent the thieves from popping the locks which is easy to do with the plastic the new fords have around the key holes, so if you have the tailgate locked they can't pop the lock. Unlocked, the tailgate can just be taken right off.
The Tailgate Keeper by Jimmi Jammers uses one of the right side tail gate hinge screws for attachment and provides a protective cover to prevent tail gate removal. It blocks the opening that allows the tail gate to slide up and off the hinge.
You need the correct size torx wrench and a little muscle to get the screw out and the keeper installer. It took about 8 minutes max.
Seems like a GREAT idea to me!!! And really..........how many bad guys are going to equipped with a torx wrench and take the time to undo this keeper.
Time, light and noise are some of the crooks worst enemy.

it may just be common sense speaking to me here, but if im a crook and im going to out to steal something then im going to take the proper tools to steal it. if it can be chained down, im taking a set of bolt cutters to cut the lock. if it can be screwed in, im taking a flat head, phillips and torx. if it can have a bolt, im taking a set of metric and standard sockets. thats just me though. mine got stolen in a hotel parking lot across from where i was working at the time. it was late, i was asleep, and they could have taken all the time in the world. if i saw someone messing with a tailgate in a parking lot im not going to go ask them what they are doing because it may very well be their truck.
that thing wont even stop a halfway decent crook from getting your gate in the middle of the wal mart parking lot in broad daylight. watch a truck park, wait for the person to get out, as soon as they go in the door go get their gate. it will take them at least 10 minutes to find what they are buying and 10 minutes to check out. so at a minimum the crook will have 20 minutes to get it off. i may look at it differently if it actually came with a special tool to get it out. something the average joe doesnt carry in his toolbox with him at all times.
http://www.timesnews.net/article.php?id=9002410 check this page out. a woman got her catalytic converters stolen off her car in the middle of the day in the parking lot where she works. this is about half an hour down the road from where i live. people will go to these lengths to steal something but something as simple as a torx screw will stop them from stealing a tail gate.......
Interesting points of view about tailgate theft. I'll try my best to keep it locked when at the stores, etc. But, if a thief takes it, a call to the insurance company will have it replaced. Can't worry about it, there's much in life to enjoy.

luckily the company i worked for at the time paid for mine because it got stolen while i was out of town for work. even if your insurance will pay for it your deductible may end up costing more than just paying for it yourself. someone hit my escape in the parking lot and drove off a few years ago and it tore the front bumper up. i called the insurance company and they said they would cover it,but i had to pay the $400 deductible. the bumper was only $300. so that was a big help lol. the best bet would be to find the people that are stealing them in the first place and buy one from them for cheap. they may even have one in the same color as your truck and save you a paint job
Someone posted these tailgates with the backup camera and man step cost $3500. Seems absurd huh? But if it's that much, the deductible on my policy is a lot less. Nonetheless, life is too short to be occupied of a tailgate theft or concern. If anybody should be concerned, it's the insurance company.
Easy $40 bucks will save you time and alot money if it was to be stolen.
umm, thanks, but our 09 trucks have already come with tailgate handle locks. so did the 04-08 models.
the point of this thread is that additional protection may be needed like the jimmijammer so the handle lock can't be punched out and some sort of device to keep the tailgate from being removed at the hinge.
The thing is most theifs are opportunist's. Leave your tallgate unlocked and they will have it away. Keep it locked and they will move onto the next truck. Leave it unlocked and have a cable tie around it then they will again more than likley leave it alone as there's going to be one further down the road they dont have to mess around with. I used to know a bloke who would steal things to order. Need a alloy he would get you one, Need a new hood, he wood get you one. There's always people about who steal for a living and they are the ones who are gonna take your stuff no matter how well you bolt it down.
I put a cable tie around the tailgate hinge on the right side, THEN, I put a hose clamp, stainless steel, over that and tightened securely. If they want it bad enough they can still steal it, but it will (1) be time consuming to get the hose clamp off, and (2) then they will have to deal with the cable tie. Simple solution for under $1!
maybe i do over estimate the intelligence of thieves sometimes......i look at things from the perspective of what i would do if i was looking to steal something, not from the perspective of the person actually doing the stealing......had a pretty stupid one hit my house the night before last. they broke the door open on both of my buildings with a crowbar, walked past 2 sets of aluminum heads, a brand new air compressor and toolbox full of air tools, my power tools and woodworking table, my hand tools toolbox, 3 push mowers and a riding mower, 5 bicycles, 2 brand new husqvarna chain saws, and countless other things so that they could steal ..........a plastic lawn cart that i paid about 20 bucks for........ nothing else was stolen or even touched.
