Looking to rebuild the stock fuel pump off my 51 8ba. I might just get a new one. I got a 6V electric pump on there now. I put it on a while back when I was groping around to get rid of a sputter type issue. This electric unit is noisy as $&%# and I got a lot of cushion between it and the mount surface. I see "single and dual action" in the parts guys brocures for these mechanical fuel pumps. Which is it,...Single or dual ?
Also , I see starter relays for 6V systems with "push buttons on the bottom " Whats up with the push button thing? Is it some kind of backup starter button type thing ???.
PS. I took the old truck to the lumber yard today and got 50 -2X8X12 boards, and 4 boxes of 12 inch ceramic floor tiles and it lugged the load like nobodys business.
The pushbutton starter solenoids are the original type; uselfull for turning the engine over while still in gear, and driving over your foot. Seriously, good for setting the points, etc.
I believe the dual action is referring to whether or not it has a vacuum pump as well. I know that is what it means for newer trucks, but I've never actually owned, or worked on a Ford flathead. Good job on the nice load though. Nothing like making an old truck do its job.
If you want to fix that noisy fuel pump it's easy...install ear plugs!
If it isn't broken John.........!!!!!!!!!
That's all I could come up with. Sorry....John, you got told. Of course, I hear the same thing when I complain after going out shooting my AK-47 with out ear protection (ears ring for three or four days).
Yea, Maybe the Carbon Monoxide doses I am gettin from my cottiebob exhaust system is making my hearing a bit sensitive.
Oh crap. It's gonna be a looooong night....... It's all good. I think there are a few of the restoration suppliers selling everything you'ld need for going back to a mechanical fuel pump. If you have electric wipers, you won't need a dual action pump, since they were used to provide extra vacuum for operating wipers and such.
