A friend has a dyno shop. During a week long dyno rental of a modular engine, the company that was paying the rental found they gained 10hp just by using Mobil 1 oil.
I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just passing on info.
He also said that the trick way to gain another 10hp is by using a 1" spacer between top of carb and air cleaner.
top of the carb and intake? na. carb spacers do work but u need to match it to ur RPM range. the syn oil may work on a modular engine that see's 6,000 rpm+ but on a 300 i doubt it'll see any.
ive ran penzoil high mileage, mobil 1 full synthetic, and rotella T diesel oil in my 300 since i bought it
the penzoil high mileage and penzoil filter did nothing, the mobil 1 full synthetic with wix filter saw decent improvement, but the biggest difference i saw was going from the mobil 1 to the rotella T diesel oil with a wix filter
so yes mobil 1 full synthetic does help in the 300 but diesel oil works better
But, want a 10 easy horsepower... use a good flowing intake filter and open up the exhaust. There's ya 10+ hp. By 'open up the exhaust', I mean climb up under it and get creative ;-)
F-250: The only way to determine gains if any for your engine would be dyno pulls. Comparison to the V8 just is not valid.
I've used carb spacers but on a DP manifold with deep ports I don't think there is anything to be gained and I don't use one now. I do use a 3" spacer between the carb and air cleaner. IIRC, Vizard recommends a minimum 3"clearance between the top of the carb and the lid of the air cleaner to improve air flow by reducing turbulence around the top of the carb. Gains, if any would have to be verified with dyno pulls.
