I ignored you completely and tried to start it again. I revved the heck out of it and it actually turned over and fired up. I kept the RPMs up and drove it a couple miles. I'm in it and it is idling. While driving it said CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER. Before I shut it off, is there any advice about what to look for while this scanner is plugged into a running truck? It's been idling for 47 minutes.

Motorcraft fuel filters.

The EGR ERR % keeps jumping from baseline 0.0 to 99.3 at idle. No revving. It stays 0.0 when revved. Sometimes it sticks at 99.2 as the baseline and drops down to 0.0 at idle.

EGR is used at the start of the cleaning exhaust filter cycle.

you really need a better code reader I am afraid.

P2002 code came up. I drove it about 75 total miles. Stopped halfway and let it sit for 1 hour then the check engine light came on during my return trip.

P2002 - DPF Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
I believe the best way to fix this is DPF/CAT delete?

I'm sure I can find recommendations on which brand to get, but is it worth performing the service myself or is it beyond a weekend job? Also, what's a DASHDAQ cost or would you prefer a different monitoring device that can be used with a CHIP down the road a little ways?

P2002 can mean there is something wrong with the DPF or perhaps you have an aftermarket air filter/intake on it.

Which is it?

I have an aftermarket air intake. How do I check to make sure it is performing correctly? It's been installed for 400ish miles.

What type of air intake? Just make sure it is sealed and provides good filtration.

There would be nothing you can do with the code at this time. Just clear it when it shows up or ignore it.

BTW the OEM (Donaldson) filter is actually quite good.

there really is no need for an aftermarket one unless you are going to tune and run big HP.

draining the contaminated oil is not the right approach.....aside from the correct recomendation of taking it to a shop....be advised that if 3 qts of fuel got mixed into your oil and you just drained 3 qts, you now have a highly diluted mix of oil and fuel remaining in your engine and that will provide poor lube and will most likely burn out your engine if you try to run it. to avoid the repair shop burning it out...drain and fill will new oil before anyone tries to start it.

assuming its not already toast.

Speakerfritz, why is the oil contaminated?

(I just performed an oil change and put Mobile 1 5W-40 & a Motorcraft FL- 2016 oil filter. The fuel filter kit is a DuraLast FF836DL.)

If you used an aftermarket fuel filters..that is a big problem. Earlier post said you used motorcraft filters.

Which is it?

DuraLast fuel filter for sure.

So, I am going to unbolt and remove my exhaust pipe after the down tube to see if it is all caused by an obstruction in the DPF.

What else can I do BEFORE I HAVE IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP that may troubleshoot this problem and will not cause any additional damage? The truck ran great once in was running. It idled steady for 45 minutes. It drove just fine for 75 miles. It started a regen when driving at highway speed. The EGR ERR (%) monitor jumps like crazy at idle and varies a lot while driving.

I appreciate all the help. Sorry about the fuel filter confusion. That's on me.

Put in OEM Ford motorcraft fuel filters. That is/was a big problem with your hard starts. AFtermarket filters do not fit correctly and allow air and water past them easy. Also the same for the oil fitler, only use OEM.

Ok, I'm about to order "Motorcraft FD4617 Fuel Filter" to install.

Does anyone recommend any special trucks when changing the filters out? I know how to drain the in line under the truck, but with the secondary filter under the hood I have heard to fill that reservoir with seafoam or add a fuel treatment directly into there.

After this weekend I will have a DPF delete and new exhaust system and I will replace the fuel filter. Should I just assume my oil is contaminated and spend another $120 to drain and redo that?

You guys are awesome. I'm glad this forum exists for people like me. Gotta learn this stuff somewhere.

No seafoam or treatments.

Just change the filters to correct ones. Lube the o rings and threads with diesel motor oil.

After you do the delete I would change the oil to ensure you have the correct 15 qts and no more in it.

What programmer are you using?
