'78 NP435 Reverse Gear Ratio?
Eddie, at first I thought 8:1 reverse was way out of line but lo and behold you were not far off 
My '68 Ford Shop Manual says reverse is 8.258:1. I don't believe the ratios changed much if at all through the years to '78. Hope this helps.
