The Lightning rear also has LS. I just thought it would be cool to have the L rear. I was told that there is something different about the case. Anyway, As far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be any factory 4.10 8.8 rears for 92-96 F150 besides the Lightning one. My sales brochure doesn't list it as an option under towing capacity. Yeah, I know I can go out and pick up a ring and pinion to swap to 4.10.
Supposidly the axle tubes are thicker. But who cares. I never have seen a twisted axle tube. The carrier always explodes before anything, trust me,I KNOW
Hey Bill, The LS will throw 2 tails too! Its real fun in the wet.
That's true too!
And I think you would be happy with a 4.10 gear. Seems to be the perfect gear for a 302 (any V8 with a medium or short stroke really).

I'm running 31 inch tires with the auto and a 4.11 gear. RPM's are kinda high but nothing too drastic. The strange thing is my fuel mileage is still acceptable, but that's IF I keep my foot out of it and keep my OD on. I double and triple checked and I found I got 18 mpg on the highway with my set up. Ty is right though, unless you have big tires 4.10 is too low for a 300. 3.73 would be perfect though IMHO.
