Thought I would check and see if it's possible to store a Carburetor. Have a Holley 4160 that I rebuilt and would like to keep as a backup. Thought since the carb has not been installed the gaskets and seals may not be an issue. Other option, swap the Carb on my truck every few months. Any opinon or suggestions?.
Perhaps spray it down with WD-40 then wrap it in a plastic bag. This will keep moisture from drying out the diaphragms. Should be fine that way.
Jimmy, I was tempted to test the carb before storing but then it seems the seals and gaskets would be incline to deteriate sooner once exposed to fuel. Appreciated the suggestions, I will 'spray and seal' and set aside and find out if the rebuild is okay if it becomes necessary. Thank yu!
Dip the carb in a product called carb dip (by MacKay)- it is a carb cleaner that wiull dissolve any gum/varnish etc. Let the carb air dry, place in a plastic bag and store in a box for general protection.
Disassembled the carb and soaked overnight in Carb cleaner/dip. During reassembly, rinsed each component with carb cleaner, followed up with air gun to clean passages and any residual chemicals. The carb is fully assembled and free of gasoline, or cleaner. Now incline to store it by spraying, bagging, and store in dry place. May add a desiccant bag. Thanks to all, appreciate the suggestions.
