Carb replacement - carter YF knowledge sought
My carter YF 4982 single barrel carb has some issues in the accelerator spring/components. It will not consistently return completely. Worn spring perhaps. I verified that while rebuilding it yesterday.
I believe this to be contributing to my sticky accelerator.
So I am shopping for another carb.
NAPA has this unit:
And Advance has this unit:
Autoline Remanufactured Carburetor C666: Get the best Carburetor at Advance Auto Parts
The NAPA unit has, what I think is called a, dashpod on the accellerator linkage side that mine does not. My truck is wired for a carb solenoid, but none is on the vehicle.
Any thoughts or other ideas for this would be appreciated.

that's a YFA with auto choke.
Need a manual choke - or my air breather won't work.
Closest I have found on EBAY is this one:
1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 Ford Carter YF Carburetor Fits 240 300C I 6CYL 4656 | eBay
If I am spending that amount, I would prefer to spend it with NAPA or advance auto.

hillcountryflt,
I looked at your link to Advance Auto parts and locally, the cost showed to be $242.99 + 58.00 core charge.
Rock Auto has the same carburetor for considerably less. More Information for AUTOLINE C666
I purchased my carburetor from Rock Auto several years ago. It, too, was remanufactured by Autoline and the quality was excellent. The throttle shaft had been bushed and the carburetor still performs very well. Autoline is a Canadian company.
Hope this helps!

Does help. Their pricing is better than advance that's for sure. About $80 or so savings over napa with discount.
Always amazes me at the number of resources out there to keep these things running.
Not sure why my carb appears so worn out after so few miles. Unless the PO had the carb replaced and his mechanic used an older carb. No telling.
But the accelerator mechanism is definitely sloppy and return to closes is not very crisp.

Well, I would have been willing to pay more if I could have gotten it sooner, but no one had one available. Paid $171 to Rock Auto for one. Should be in about Halloween.
In the meantime, going to see what I can do to get this one functioning better. My swap out my carter YFA from my 71 and see how that goes. I just rebuilt it 4 months ago.
