Ok so I had some squeaking noises comming from my front end (1993 F250 diesel 4x4). So I assumed I had a dana 50 and went and bought the special service tool and related parts. After looking through my repair manual and removing my ford manual hubs I think I may have dana 44's, I just regreased my hubon the passenger side, and tightend the wheel bearing that was so loose I could move it back and forth in my hand, it seems as though the wheel lock the washer with holes in it that lines up with the pin on the inner lock nut came loose (not a great system in my mind ) . any way I found that none of the front brake parts had lubricant or anti seize on them so I set that right and replaced a missing anti rattle spring ( previous owner had replaced the pads about 3000 miles ago and did a ****ty job of it).
Well all of sqeaking noises have since gone away, but I still dont know what axle I have and I had planed on replacing all my bearings and seals so now I guess I will either have to buy both or maybe just take one side off and go into napa and match them up.
any one one here know if f250's in 1993 came with dana 44's ? I have the tow package with limited slip and 4:10's.
Light duty F250(upto 8500lb) got a D44 HD while the heavier F250(over 8500lb) got the D50. The way to ID them is at the hub, the D50 hub is overall larger in diameter than the D44HD hub. Here's a D44HD, the hub of the D50 fills the wheel opening.
not nesseccarly Con, Dana 50 was an option on all truck and there was no set pattern as to which trucks got a dana 44 or dana 50. only real hard evidence i have seen is most 92+ recieved a dana 50 and most ext cabs 80-96/7 got the dana 50. and that goes from just looking at different trucks in the junkyard and around my area.
I just had a look under the front of my truck and there is a "50" cast right onto the backside of the diff housing. I wonder if it's a Dana 50..............
Took pics of it and the end of the front hub. Mine are manual and only have 3 screws holding the cover on. What's up with that?
Pics are in my photo album. Don't know how to attach to a post yet.
