My 2001 Navigator has trouble returning the mirrors to certain positions when they're moved. This is without hitting end-of-travel conditions. It seems to have been a perennial problem.

I rarely get a complaint about the pre 03 mirrors. Other than people getting popped in the parking lot and damage occurs.
My passenger side mirror has been replaced twice. Once for shaking at highway speeds. A second time for popping when shifting into reverse. It still pops.
I finally gave up and disabled the feature. I marked it off as a bad design. It wasn't a critical feature anyway.
How do you disable this "feature". My wife's '03 expy has this problem. Adjust the mirrors and set the preset. Then open the vehicle with the remote and the passenger side mirror rachets down like it would in reverse but only the passenger side does it. When put in reverse both sides rotate down driver side less than the passenger side as described above. (Doesn't really help you view anything that way as it does not rotate enough to see the curb or your wheels.) Unfortunately, even after returning to drive, the passenger side mirror never returns to the preset position as stated in the bulletin. I just want to kill the feature but keep the presets. IF that is possible, how do you do it? TIA

My mirrors go crazy every once in a blue moon. They rarely malfunction in reverse and hardly ever go crazy when the truck is unlocked with the remote. My Expy was an early build '03, built in May of '02 and it has had very few problems. I don't have the rear end trouble, a/c trouble, starting trouble, or rattles that most people complain about(I had the seals replaced and new latches put on, that solved the door rattling problem). Overall, I think I lucked out, especially since I have a very early build '03. However, I have noticed that when my mirrors go nuts, it's usually not long after I go through an automatic carwash. I've heard of water getting in the mirrors and causing problems, not sure, just thought I'd throw that out there.
