oil usage

I have an 02 F-250 4X4 6.8 litre It has 45K miles on it and I just got home from a trip that was approximately 600 miles or so, I did have to climb some hills on the freeway. I checked the oil and it was a half quart low. Is this normal for these Triton V-10's or should I be concerned about oil ring bypass?

i would watch it for a couple of weeks, and check it regularily. 1 trip is just not a long enough sample time to panic about.45 in 6-7 years is very low mileage. could someone have tampered with the odometer? or its been used so rarely its not really broken properly. if thats the case it needs to be hooked to a heavy trailer and worked HARD for a week or so. until it really seats in its gonna suck back the oil

Thanks for the reply, I had a car-fax done on the truck when I bought it used a few years ago. One thing it may be is that it did have a 5th wheel receive installed at one time, there are bolts in the spots where the hitch was installed. I don't know what they towed, maybe it was pretty heavy and put a strain on the engine.
