My little VW rabbit pickup will not start. It started acting up and wouldnt start unless i bled the air out of it and all of sudden it wouldn't start up one morning. I bled the all the lines and i got fuel coming from all 4 lines but will not start when i hook up the lines.
Could there but alot of air in the injectors or could a couple of my injector seals be out and not letting it to properly get its prime? My return line from an injector is leaking but I would'nt think that would make a difference. those are non-pressurized lines and would'nt have a affect on it would it?
Leaking return lines should not prevent it from starting. However they will allow air to enter while the engine is off and so allow fuel to drain back probably causing hard starting.
You seem to have bled it pretty well so I would look at glowplugs. Is your glowplug light staying on the usual length of time?
Is the battery good giving good cranking speed?
Another thought. The fuel lift pump is in the injector pump on those? If so there would be a check valve so maybe no drain back with leaking return lines.

ya it is. Its a Bosch VE pump. I have a electric fuel pump on it to help out the lift pump. The return lines on having been leaking since i got it running and that was back in march. The glow plugs are running the normal length of time. I tried running it today and it wouldn't start but it was firing on 1 cylinder. I wonder if the timing belt has jumped a notch? If thats not the case then I think the Injection pump is starting to go out.
Good point on jumped timing. Many years ago a friend of mine rebuilt his engine and it would only start and run with WD 40 sprayed into the intake, turned out the injector pump timing was a couple of belt teeth out. Maybe worth checking.
A PITA but might be worth doing a compression check.
Another thought. Are you the only driver? Any chance someone could have put gas in the tank?
Also may be worth getting a new fuel filter and filling it with Diesel Kleen and see if it will start.
Ya I'm the only driver. I still have like 20 gallons in the tank which sucks in my part. I wouldn't think anyone would put gas in it but who knows. I just a new filter on right after it started dieing on me. I think I'm going to check the timing and if its off I will have to take it back to school with me so i can tear it down and fix my problems.
