fuel gauge problems

fuel gauge problems

I have an 88 f-150 with daul tanks, and the fuel gauge is no reading correctly on either tank. One is showing past fuel and the the other is showing empty. Bothe tanks has fuel in them. Please Help

Sound like the dash gauge and voltage regulator are working.
So it would be a open circuit (bad wiring, plugs or sender) on the full tank & a sunk sender on the empty tank.

Ford gages are natorious for not being all that good. I have an 87 F250 Diesel and both gages read wrong. The front tank reads full till it is about 1/4 full then drops like a rock. The rear tank reads full till it's about 1/2 full.

Check your tank switch first- it's the easiest fix. One of my dads old trucks would do that and it turned out the switch was just worn. He replaced it and had good readings after that.
*Edit- I should probably note that it was on an '84 Chevy.
