Here is my 94' F150xl 4x4 4.9L 5sp, its got 252,800 miles on it, I got the truck off my dad last June and I put over 20,000 miles on it in a year, I drive to much lol.
Was just thinking about it, I started thinking about doing a mild buildup on a 4.9l. Just cant really find performance pars for um.
you need to check out the I-6 thread there are plenty of items for the 300 straight six if ya see a guy on there named dustybumpers tell him I sent ya!he will steer ya in the right direction
If you want performance, go V8. It is possible to build a four nine but the way I look at it, a built 4.9 has the same power as a 351 does, stock. It is cooler to have a built six but the 4.9 doesn't have a whole lot of after market. I don't know how to build an EFI version. I know you can't just put any cam in it because of the computer. The carb guys like to run EFI manifolds or headers with a 4BBL, cam, Chevy rockers I think and a bunch of other little stuff. We have one member on this site claiming to produce 300 or 350 horse and over 400 ft lbs out of his carb'd 300 I6. His screen name is ColFlashman. You might try and look him up and send him a PM for some ideas, but there again, your 300 is EFI. Other members on this site know a ton more than I do. The EFI 300 runs pretty good stock. A lower gear ratio will help motivate your beast in the 0 - 60 times if you are looking for suggestions.
Yea it would prob be eaiser since its the same and I dont have to worry about swapping different engines. I wasn't going for major power just something a little built up. What do you have done to your truck?

I hear what you're saying. It's a shame the 300 doesn't have a larger following and bigger after market support.
What I've done to my truck? Well, not enough to be much help to you. My experience is exhaust and gearing. But I will say this; if you are interested in 0 - 60 times and out of the hole hell raising power, keep the OE sized tires and swap out the gear for a 4.10. I went from 3.08 to 4.10 and my truck was just plain fun around town. Going to such a low gear made my tranny shift like it had a shift kit. My 0 - 60 was 11 seconds on my first run. I never tried again because I didn't want to blow the motor (lot of miles).
However, my top end leaves much to be desired for. I do wish I had gone with 3.73.
Let me know if you start messing with your exhaust. AbandondedBronco has a nice set up, and BearRiver is a good guy to talk to about exhaust. There's a lot of guys who have messed with their exhaust on here. The key to true performance thought is as simple as this; One three way cat, a turbo muffler, and keep the piping below 2.50''. Oh, and make sure to run the tailpipe as far back as possible.
Other guys on here really get serious about tweaking their 300 powered trucks. Harte is a good guy to talk to about that too.
Sorry I can't give you any real information on how to pull power out of an EFI 300.
