Strange Startup Issue

On may way to work this morning I stopped to feed the gas pump. After filling up I turned the truck over and it seemed to start for a split second then die, and the message center said Low Oil Pressure and beeped, then went blank. I turned the key off and started her up again and everything was find. Oil pressure gauge was where it always is and the Edge recorded no codes.

This ever happen to anyone else? Normally, I wouldn't give it a second thought and would just chalk it up to a "glitch". But I'm 400 miles from my factory warranty expiring and I'm getting paranoid.

IMO, since your that close to the warranty being up I'd take it in for a "check-up".
I haven't heard of any oil pump or sender failures. It probably wouldn't hurt for a service group to double check tho.

On my ol' '99 Ranger I had the opposite "fluke" occuring. Instead of reading low, it would peg out for a microsecond or so. Then it would be fine. It really never gave me any cause for concern or a CEL.

If Homer or any of our other "resident" factory techs see this, maybe they can chime in.

Would it be that you didn't turn the key quite enough. It was just enough to start it and for it to think it is running but then stalled. I know with my 01 F-150 if I don't hold it enough to start it that it will sometimes do that. Even after I try to restart it sometimes it takes a little extra cranking to start it.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I'm hoping that's what I did. Perhaps it started just enough for the PCM to get a bad reading off the oil pressure sensor. I changed the oil and cleaned the Volant today just in case.

Unfortunately, it looks like I won't be making it into the dealer prior to the odometer turning 36K. My father needs my help with some house stuff and he lives a couple hours away. I was really hoping to get in to the dealer too, I need a new front emblem. Hurricane Ike messed mine up

If your under warranty, take it in and tell them you have a leaking injector. the 5.4L injectors are good for doing that. They leak the fuel pressure into the intake and then you go to start and you need to crank longer then normal to build pressure. the rough running is the injector sticking. When I get these in, I remove the entire fuel rail and connect our injector flush kit to the rail and watch for any leaks out of the injectors and replace all that show seapage. You can watch Rail pressure with the IDS and if pressure falls more then a pound or two you have a leaking injector.

If you have a good relationship with your local dealer then just call them and tell them what has happened. If they want to keep your business they should start a work order so that you are covered. If they don't want to do that then change dealers and tell them you will do that. I have had my local dealer do that for me for things in the past and they have kept my business.
