i took my truck out today for a last test drive befor i went and got it inspected and registered and my dad was messing with the jets and idle screw on the carb it is a holly 750 4 barrel and when i drove it about a half mile from the house the truck backfired when i was about a 1/8 of the throtle and killed the truck the electronic moduel was so hot that i could bearly touch it after it cooled down for about a hour i changed it and it is getting fire to the plugs and when i bearly put any gas to the carb it just flames up out of the carb... i havent checked to see if it jumped time but i put a new timing belt on before i put the motor in and re set the time any clues or anything any one know could be wrong with it?
Flames coming out of the carburetor means you're starting a cold motor with the choke wide open, or there's a severe timing issue. You didn't put on a timing belt.
no there is a timin belt on it the guys who built the motor didnt have the timing set or anything... the cause of the problem was the roter cracked and the timing was about 30 degreese above tdc so i had to re set it and the truck kept poping so i took the vacume advance off and switched it to variable vacume the truck is runing like it is suppose to run.

Well, the timing CHAIN could have been installed wrong, causing the the firing to be off.
