header install question

Hey guys - finally ordered a set of the summit headers to (hopefully) fix my ehaust leak on the passenger side.

I notied in some of the other write ups you guys replaced the EGR tube and cross-tubes. Was this due to having to cut them out, or what was the deal? Just wondering what else I should get before I start the project.

Also, any harm in just doing the passenger side and holding off on the driver side till I have more time?

I'm looking lucky in that there isn't much rust in there (car came from the southwest) so I'm thinking I might be able to save the downtube assembly?

It was the EGR tube plus the adapter that screws into the exhaust manifold (or header), two separate parts there. I replaced them only because I could not get them apart from the manifold without destroying them.

Also, don't forget about the engine oil dipstick tube. There's a good chance you'll destroy your's when you take it out. It has to come out in order to get the header on because of the flat plate steel on the header which isn't on exhaust manifolds.

None whatsoever.

thanks alloro

Guessing everything came from the dealer? I checked autozone but the only dipstick they have is for '65 and newer chevy and is a universal fit. Don't think it'll fit a ford!

Yes, the EGR tube, EGR tube adapter, and the dipstick tube all came from the dealer. Mind you, you don't need a dipstick, just the tube.

my egr tube and dipstick tube came out and back in with no real issues. i did lower the front driveshaft in order to get the driver side header in place.

thanks alloro! lol It must be the region I live in. I dont have to deal with that nasty rust and corrosion I read so much about.
On a side note, how much improvement did you notice if any?

i live in the hot desert and with both a/c's running my expy was a pig off the line and midrange. after the headers, like you i also noticed a small change around town. but, on the freeway my wife and i both really notice a change for the better. it feels at home now on the freeway.
