Does anyone have a visual aid for the wiring of the fuel gauge? I found some stray wires last night, and don't know where they go. Preferably with wire colors, and where they connect in the harness. This is for a 76 F-150 with a single tank.
Been awhile, but my recollection is there are two wires. A ground (Black) and a wire that runs from the sending unit to the guage. I think the wire to the gauge is whte, but not 100% sure.

Sounds bout right to me. Been a while since I was messing around with mine, but that sounds familiar.
You all's thinking is correct. The sending unit grounds to a frame crossmember with a short length of black wire, terminated by a ring terminal. No clue on the sending unit wire color. Mine looks yellowish, but it's hard to tell if it started out as white or yellow.
Fuel tank sending wires should be ran down the dvrs side frame rail, on the inside. Yes on the black wire that it frame grounded right back by the tank.
And you should have a black plastic QD (quick disconnect) right back there by the forward tank cross member, once again on the inside L/H frame area.
Maybe green?? I am looking at a pic that I can't attach in more than one thread, for some reason? Would go out to truck and double ck but I am in Afghanistan as I type this.
Hope this helps, if not I am sure you will get more advise, shortly.
Thanks for the information. I found the ground, and the sending unit wire. It seems that the PO has replaced it with a blue wire, that is hanging free near the front cab mount.
So my next question is...
What wire does this need to connect to on the wiring harness what comes out of the front of the cab to make my gauge work?
In case it matters, the wiring harness is from a 76 F-150 2wd 390 with the Alt and Oil light instead of the gauges.
