no volare removal threads

I am currently removing the front end from an 88 Fifth Ave. and I'd like to know what needs to be removed or disconnected to pull the front end out. I crawled under it and saw the 4 big bolts. Do I need to pull the motor or just unbolt it from the mounts. How do you unbolt the 4 bolts with out it falling on top of you. It would be hard to crawl underneath it with a jack in the way. I suppose I could sit out there and figure it out but since I know there's people on here that have done it already I figured I'd ask. Please don't respond with your opinions on a mustang II or any other front end. I know they are better. I'm working with what I can afford right now. Thanks

the engine is sitting on the cross member.. so you will have to pull it first. or find some way to hold it up. You will also have to remove the power steering box, as it clamps around the chassis (did on the 5th avenue we pulled mine from).

I left the engine in the Aspen that I got my front end from. Removed the 4 big bolts, unbolted the motormounts, cut the brake lines, unbolted the power steering lines and dropped it out. I should have removed the steering box from the crossmember since I broke the input shaft.

I am wondering if the engine will stay up because of the tranny mount? I wouldn't want to be laying under it if that was all that's holding it up but it would beat having to pull the motor out.

If I remember right when I did mine I used a large steel square tubing that I had laying around . I set it across the front fenders from side to side and looped some steel chain around it and bolted it under the tubing after I found a couple of good solid mounting points to hold the engine . I wasn't going to use the engine so it didn't matter if it got damaged . When I was sure that everything was going to stay where I put it ,it was then and only then that I went under the car to start unbolting things . I think it took me about 3 -4 hrs to get everything out that I wanted . Just a heads up though make sure you keep all 4 wheels off the donor car because I only kept the front ones and after having my rear axles downsized for the 9 inch that I'm using I need the other two and am having I rather hard time finding them as most of the mopar type vehicles have been crushed .

pop the hood.

Undo the motor mounts

lay the drive shaft across the front fenders

Jack the motor up about 4 inches

Run a chain under the pulley on the crank and up around the driveshaft

Lower the motor onto the chain.

undo the steering column from the steering box

undo the four bolts, etc

Drop the front end out of her.

I lucked out, mine came from a neighbor. I bought the car for $50, took it home and removed the suspension. Took it in to the crushers and got $100. Nothing like getting your parts and a little extra cash.
