Haven't done one in awhile, but they're not bad if I recall. If you have one already, follow the in-box instructions, if you're going to buy one, follow the included instructions. I think the last one I did I had done in 20 minutes. Sorry I can't be more help than that, but they really aren't that bad, especially if you are even slightly mechanically inclined.
It takes longer to run the wires back to and install the 7 blade trailer connector than it does to install the controller.
Brake light signal from the switch on the pedal.
Power to the unit.
Power to the trailer connector from the controller.
And a ground wire.
If the trailer has a breakaway battery, you also need battery power in the connector to charge the breakaway battery.
Also in my opinion, if you want reliable brakes everytime, run a ground wire back up to the battery negative terminal instead of relying on a frame ground connection or grounding through the ball.
already have the 7way. but that is a good idea about the dedicated ground. gonna have to do that. planning on running a dedicated hot to the plug, will run a ground while i am at it... thankz dave
ok this sob is ticking me off. one line of the instructions says to hook it into the turn switch b/c if you hook it into the stop switch you can ruin the stop switch... the next line says hook it to the stop switch... WHICH IS IT!!!!!! MY HAIR IS ALREADY TURNING GREY TO EARLY AS IT IS!!!!!!!!! lol
