I just bought a dana 60 rear axle and im not sure what kind of gear ratio it has or what kind of differential it is. I have the axle tag numbers if anyone can help me out.... (4 10 D8TA SB 603901-4 L S) Thanks...
Shouldn't the tag say, 4L10 if it had a LS unit?
Any bets that its open?
Pull the cover man. Look at it and see. If the axle is out of the truck, you can roll the axle and remove the cover in about 5 minutes without dropping a bit of oil. Then you can tighten the cover back up and you will know for sure.
Ive never trusted the tag. These old axles have the potential to have anything in them and still have the original tag. Oddly enough I have seen tags on used axles that were installed to give the appearance of something that not quite accurate. Unfortunately it happens.
Though I have never purchased an axle without inspecting the ring and pinion, I have seen several tags that had lies written all over it.
