We are a public school district, the 6.0 is in a E-450 cutaway van chassis with a 30 passenger school bus body. As a public school district we are tax exempt and can legally either use dyed non taxed fuel or use taxed fuel and file forms to get the tax money rebated to us.

And to clarify our dyed fuel is ULSD. The dye only tells you that it is for tax exempt use. The DNR does not care but the IRS is very interested.

Sounds like you found the truck owned by the little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays.
My 6.0 has been great - I've had it tinkered with for longevity, but that's because I wanted to soup it up. Runs very well.
Did you get it at Courtesy Ford in Conyers? What have you heard about their service dept., in case you need it?
I can't add much to what others have said except to mention that a 4" turboback exhaust and the coolant filter are great ideas. Unfortunately you could get some hassle from the service dept if you take it in for warranty work with these upgrades.

I got the truck at Covington Ford. The guy that bought it brand new drove 100 miles a day to work and could not afford to drive this truck. So he traded it in on a Ranger. He drove $20,000 worth of new out of it.

Ours in our signature line below has been so good that last summer we bought a new full size school bus with the International VT365 version of the 6.0.
I agree about the internet statement. I owned a 07 6.0 ex cab short bed and if it would have been a crew cab long bed I would still have it. I loved it and I never had any trouble out of it. The main thing on the 6.0 is stay on top of all maitenance, use only motorcraft or racor filters and work it regularly if posible. You have a very fine truck take care of it and enjoy it.

This is key. Although my personal experience was very bad, I do know of some happy 6.0 owners.

I have a 6.0 with almost 200k on it and it has ran fine and hauls like a freight train and all I have is a Bullydog tuner valont intake egr delet turbo back exahast and a few other thing and it halls very excellent for example the other day I halled 6 tons of rocks and had no problems what so evere and I also have halled excavatoras and backhoes and a work trailer and it pulls like a champ and my tuck is lifted 8inches on 38inch tires the only real problem I had was I got on it at a stop light the tires broke lose and the truck was running great just put a half a tank of fule in it and everything the truck shut it self off I thou that it was out of fule but I just put fuel in it so it wasn't that so I had it towed to the ford dealership and the opt sensor was bad and they repealed it and that was a while back and haven't had another problem with it since

Be sure to read the tech-folder at the begining of the forum, it has a crap ton of info on what to do and what not to do.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html

Don't let it scare you though these are great trucks /engines.
As is has been stated before use OEM parts, keep up on the maintenance and just drive it!

I love my 6.0 but I'm also a realist. There are inherent flaws with the design i.e. oil and egr coolers.

Fix those issues and you should be good to go.

English doesn't seem to be his first language too. Understanding what he was writing was a bit of a challenge. The newest truck with this engine is now 10 model years old.

Problems with a 6.0? I took over ownership of a 6.0 van with over 777,000 on it. The coolant system was messed up because the previous owner did not do any maintenance. However, it was running great! I liked the van so much that I upgraded the transmission pan to the larger size with a real filter. Nice upgrade for about $200. I bought a Scan Gauge and noticed my FICM voltage was low. The battery cable was broke. I had Ed from FICM repair rebuilt the FICM.

The EGR cooler was leaking slightly and I paid a Ford MasterTech to replace the oil cooler, EGR cooler, and the HPOP. He did a few other things since he had everything removed. I spent about $3k to prevent any major hiccups. He rebuilt the turbo because I kept on getting the dreaded P0299 code.

The van now has 792500 miles on it and we just completed an 8,000 mile cross country trip. Next year, plan to take the van to Alaska. The 6.0 is an amazing engine. The Torque Shift transmission is beautiful. Sure, it needs maintenance like any other vehicle. The trick is solid preventive maintenance.

My buddy just bought a beautiful 7.3 van with a125,000 on the clock because one of his 7.3 vans blew a head gasket and the other 7.3 van fried a transmission. He killed two 7.3 vans within 2 months of each other. He expects his new van to last up to 180,000 before he has to replace the transmission again.

My point is any vehicle will fail without regular maintenance. He believed both 7.3s would run without regular maintenance. I flushed the tranny on his van and thought I disconnected the wrong line because the red tranny fluid was dark black!
