429 Carb and Intake ?

I am just getting started on my 78 F-250 Extended Cab. I found a good deal on a 770 Holley Truck Avenger Carb and I am wondering if its to big some say it is, some say it will run great. I am thinking of trying a Weiand 8012 Man. on it also??
Any Advice would be alot of Help
The Motor has the Stock Dove heads and I am planning on running headers!
Thanks Alot

with those mods i think that carb will be fine. you will loose some throttle response and low speed driveability compared to a smaller carb, but with proper carb tuning that can be eliminated and you will have a nice performing carb. and Holleys are fairly adjustable.

either find someone really knowledgeable on Holleys to help you tune it or do some research and Holleys tech line to point you in the right direction as far as tune.

most people make the mistake of buying a carb (either new or even worse used) and sticking it on with no tuning what so ever and wondering why the carb performs so badly. all carbs have to be tuned to your appication even brand new out of box carbs. the factory can set them up fairly close to what you require but never spot on.

My experience with the avenger series of holley carbs... Not worth the additional money. stick with the tried and true holley 750 vac secondary unit with electric choke.

If your combo is near stock the performer would be a mucn better manifold choice. A 1" 4 hole spacer would be even better.

The stealth intake while a great intake has too much runner cross section for mild applications.
