title search

How do I go about getting a title for my 79 f100? I bought it off ebay with out a title but we are required to have one in NJ. I have so far used the plates and insurance off my old truck but I know its not the best idea.

Contact your local DMV, give them the VIN.

However, you may be opening a can of worms when you do that.

No title can mean someone may have lost it, or the truck was financed at some point and never paid off.

A vehicle that was never paid off will be considered stolen.

If the truck was stolen at some point, your local DMV may have a record of that.

Talk to your DMV. No other way around it. And for goodness sake, quit using the plates and insurance from your old truck. One of my friends got arrested for that. And if you get in an accident with that false insurance, you're screwed.

I would talk to DMV and tell them "I am thinking about buying truck off ebay and want to do a vin/title ck".

Hope you atleast got a bill of sale from PO ? If it comes back clean clean, apply for a lost title, DMV should know all the requirements.

If it comes back with a lien aginst it or even worse stolen, I would talk to the guy who sold it to you and get it straightened out.

Different plates and insurance is a NO GO, quit risking loosing your driving privileges.

Call your DMV and find the last title holder. Then get them to sign a release of interest on the vehicle. Hope it is not stolen, you will be SOL.

I have to agree BIG TIME, on this one! Using plates off another truck is just wrong on so many levels. This could have disatrous results which could effect you for years to come, NOT a smart move.

Don't mean to bust your hump bro, but being a police officer, I see what this kind of decision making does to innocent people and their families.

But to answer your question, like what others say, get a bill of sale, and go to your DMV, they will run the vin. You MAY need to take pictures, have a police officer verify the vin, and jump through a few other hoops till you get a title.

good luck, and let us know how you make out!

Im going to check the DMV as an interested buyer. The bad part is I never got a bill of sale. I had planned on using the truck for parts but it turned out to be so nice that I stripped all the parts from my 76 and installed them on the 79.

I wonder if your ebay "Item Won" email could be considered a bill of sale

Broadway Title Co. Or sell the truck to someone you trust with a bill of sale, then have them apply for a title with Broadway.

Assuming the title is just lost after 30 years.

And stop using the old registration. BIG fines, even jail time...
