How do I go about getting a title for my 79 f100? I bought it off ebay with out a title but we are required to have one in NJ. I have so far used the plates and insurance off my old truck but I know its not the best idea.
Talk to your DMV. No other way around it. And for goodness sake, quit using the plates and insurance from your old truck. One of my friends got arrested for that. And if you get in an accident with that false insurance, you're screwed.

I have to agree BIG TIME, on this one! Using plates off another truck is just wrong on so many levels. This could have disatrous results which could effect you for years to come, NOT a smart move.
Don't mean to bust your hump bro, but being a police officer, I see what this kind of decision making does to innocent people and their families.
But to answer your question, like what others say, get a bill of sale, and go to your DMV, they will run the vin. You MAY need to take pictures, have a police officer verify the vin, and jump through a few other hoops till you get a title.
Im going to check the DMV as an interested buyer. The bad part is I never got a bill of sale. I had planned on using the truck for parts but it turned out to be so nice that I stripped all the parts from my 76 and installed them on the 79.
