I have a F250 that I haul a 5th wheel with. I have been battleing this issue for a while now and it is gotten to where I cannot convince my wife to go too far from home.
I had my 97 transmission rebuilt a couple of years ago after we were stranded on the road with our dog and 2 small kids. When I had it rebuilt I purchased a triple clutch TC and a towing shift kit, I also included a MagnaHytec pan and external filter along with a temp guage. Oh yeah and an additional cooler. Every since then I have had a cooling issue that comes and goes. Sometimes the fluid is circulateing fine and the temp will stay around 160 f and then it will just stop getting to the Aux cooler. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It is driving me crazy!
Thanks Steina. There wasn't one but excellent thought. I am wondering if the cooler inside the radiator needs to be flushed clean. Any thoughts on what to use?
Don't know if it would apply, but my '99 transmission started to have heating problems. The temp would go higher each day of a trip home from AZ. I talked to the mgr at the Power Shop and after a few questions from him he said he could fix it for 100 bucks. For me most of his "fix it" bucks were much higher. It was a simple kit that removed a bypass pressure valve that Ford used to route the t-oil back to the transmission if the cooler(s) become plugged. If think the pressure was set was some where around 12 psi and most valves failed and rerouted the hot oil back at 5 psi or less. Ford removed the valve some were down steam. Hope the info helps.
Check your PMs. I checked yours after I posted and found a PM about the pressure swiitch/valve. There was alot of info there that would have been nice to read in the thread.
