I looked under my truck today to see what size line it was that goes to the fuel pump from the tank so i could get some to replace it with. I noticed that it was a metal line that came from the tank and then about 8 inches from the pump it goes to rubber and then that crappy quick connect fitting.
So my question is this. do you guys suggest replacing the entire line with rubber or just redo the connections on each end and use hose clamps. My truck is an Early 99. if i were to leave the metal line in how would i put in the pre pump filter.
I ran rubber along side the steel and zip-tied them together. Do the harpoon while you have the tank down. Easier mod than you think it will be probably.
ITP has a kit that has everything you need. No trips to the parts store because you forgot this, that or the other. It eliminates the in-tank filters so that if you ever get crud in your tank, you don't have to drop it. Just change the external filter which is a water separator. In the winter months. I let it spill a little fuel every few times I fill up since it seperates water from fuel.
Getting rid of the fuel line quick connects is key to the Hutch. Those are pressure sealed connections which in our application are under vacuum. Hence, the primary source of air intrusion. Run fuel line all the way back to the metal stubs and double clamp them.
It does look like a nice kit! Does Clay offer a kit like this one and maybe for a better price?
I don't know what Clay offers but maybe you should PM him. Having installed that kit myself, I can tell you the 2 biggest PITAs I had to deal with was the wife getting worried because I was running the truck past the "E" mark (less fuel, less weight on tank) and me leaving the toolbox somewhere else and had to go get it.
when u 2x clamp them face the tightening bolts on the clamps in opposite directions ... it will make for much more equal pressure around the circumference of the barb
