I'm building a 351W for my truck and have it totally dismantled except for the camshaft bearings.
The block is in good shape and I was really hoping to do the whole rebuild in my workshop. It would also be very difficult logistically to get the block to a machine shop.
I have looked around the web for the correct tool, but only find universal ones that are very expensive (>$150) and some sbc ones.
I've also found drawings to build your own, but that could get expensive too, as two parts would need to be made by a machinist.
I've phoned around to rental places and noone seems to have one.
have you tried renting one? no i dont think you can get a cheap one, nor would you want it. even if you only use it one it will pay for itself in one engine.
Thanks,
I fianlly found a place that rented the tool to me. It cost me $25 for 24hrs. I spent about 4 hours last night removing the old bearings and installing the new ones.
Can't wait to start putting the motor back together now. Just need a few more parts.
