54 years ago.....

This has, or something like it, been posted before, but it's still interesting.

SO SAD,....SO TRUE!..........

Funny.....yet sad....54 years ago..

Comments made in the year 1955!
That's only 54 years ago!

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are,
it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $10.00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?
It won't be long before $1, 000.00 will only buy a used one..

'If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit.
20 cents a pack is ridiculous..

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter..

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00,
nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon.
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more Ever since they let Clark Gable
get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND,
it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man
on the moon by the end of the century.
They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball?
It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President..

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric.
They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays.
I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone
to watch their kids so they can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes..
I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,
but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend,
it costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $15.00 a day in the hospital,
it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

I worked summers loading watermelons for $3/ hour (I'm 44, and tis was in the early 80's). I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

I remember back in the 50s you could buy cars all day long that were drivers for $100 and even $50 if you looked a little harder.

That's outstanding, Ben!!!

Funny as hell too!

I'm 44......So far as consciousness of gas prices......I (barely) remember the first 1974 gas 'crunch' where it went up to what? 60 or 70 + cents or something? Then stabilized....Then did the same thing in 1979 and went up to about $1.30 by 1982?

I only remember it because in 1973/74, the family was living in Cherry Point (NC)...and Dad used the base fuel station...which was full service....and fuel-time was usually after Sunday morning church or something.....

Damn! Remember full-service? I think NJ still mandates that......We have 1 full-service station in Charlotte right now.

I had forgot about 1982 ! The interest rates were sky high. Despite the wife and I having good credit we had to pay somewhere around 13 % interest on her new Grand Marquis, and that was the lowest we could find anywhere !

Things where way better back then, and people are complaining about 25 cents a gallon?
Wonder is someone who complained about things going up in price in the 50's is complaining now...
There was a song in the '70s that was complaining about paying a $1.50 for gas.

I used to scrimp for weeks to pay 10.00 rodeo entry fees back in high school. Now I have entry fees that are 200-500.00 and payback isnt much better than in the late 70's

In 2000 on april 14th when i brought the excursion to the gas station for first time I paid 40.00 for full tank. On april 14th of 2008 I paid 170.00

They were much better times. There was more fun and less to worry about. Of course the politicians were scum then too. That never changed. They just got better at robbing us.

I can remember gas for less than $.25 in the 50s. I traded in a car once because "every time I turn around I have to put in $5.00 worth of gas". I think that was around 1967 or so. Last spring I was filling up the truck three times a week at about $125 a pop. And at the time I had 4 trucks on the road.

Times have changed for the worse.

In 1981, when I bought my Ford F150, the interest on the loan was 20.99%.

I paid off the 42 month loan in 15 months.

My '83 Alaska trip cost me roughly $700 in gas; that was a 10,000 mile road trip.

Hate to think what it would cost me now.
