'01 E350 Hitch Installation
- What kind of hitch should I get? The most I'd be pulling is a waterski boat.
- Can I keep the spare in its place under there?
- I wonder how pre-wired I am? How do I tell?
- I have the step bumper, if that matters.
- Do I have to consider the height at which the hitch will end up, as the 350 sits a bit highter, no?
- About how much will this set me back?
Cheers,
-mat
most any brand will do, but make sure thay have taken into account the spare tire. (most do)
do you at least have a 4 pin trailer wire to the rear bumper? if so, follow it to approximatly the rear axle and you will hopefully find the round( if I remember right) plug that is the prewire point for the full 7 pin cable plug.
When I bought the kit for my 01 e150 it had 2 connectors on the new cable that went there, 1 replaced the 4 wire cable (still got mine somewhere) and the other plugs into the other plug at the same point.
the kit came with the cable ane relay for the rear trailer power/bat feed that is in the 7 pin feed and was not terribly expensive. it would also not be really hard to wire your own but I like plug and play myself.
on my 2005 e350 the height does not affect it much, just get a hitch with the approprate rise/fall
IF you are towing large, say like my 30foot trailer camper, let a pro shop show you how to set up a hitch and load leveling system. it is good to get that right.
as example Draw Tite PN 75374 class IV hitch (see http://www.draw-tite.com/ for specs)
here is a site as example for price http://www.drawtite-hitches.com/hitc...=Econoline+Van
the price pbetween class III and IV is only 8 bucks so I would go for the class IV
as for the cable, I cannot find a reference for it online in my short search, call your local dealer, might be 80-100 bucks.
remember if all you need for now is a four pin plug it may already be there wrapped up near the rear bumper on the drivers side.
Good luck!
Rich
