Is it worth the effort to rebuild my transfer case?I have a serious clunk in 4low that I don't like the sound of.Should I rebuild or go to the salvage yard?Ron

Open the PTO cover or inspection plate and look at the condition of the gears. If the gears look good, no chipped teeth, nice wear pattern, and if it has a chain check for wear on that too. If that looks good, I've heard that the parts are cheap and it's easy to do.

What kind of transmission is it?

I just overhauled a '78 NP435, and I'm here to tell you that I paid $50.00 for the overhaul kit (gaskets/bearings) and it was dirt-simple.
