Hello all,
I have a question. I have a 1984 F150 2wd 300 6 cylinder,4spd. My question is will my donut gasket being bad rob me of power? My exhaust donut gasket is bad and really loud. What's the best way to replace this without breaking off the bolts? Thanks for reading.
Clean them up really good with a wire brush and then shoot them with a good penetrating oil every day for a week or two and then get at em. You can put some heat in them or just try when they are already hot (from the engine running), most of the time I have done them hot the whole stud comes out of the manifold, if that happens just pick up some new studs and a bottoming tap to clean up the threads and your set. Good luck exhaust bolts can be a real adventure.

The previous postings will definitely help for repairing. However if you are concerned about loss of hp/tq an inexpensive upgrade would be to scrap the"lincoln log" exhaust for a split exhaust/twin down tube (late 80's',90's) design. Had a '86 tfi which required some minor grinding/tabing to the intake manifold for hot air to supply to the electric choke (if necessary) . Did make a difference from stock - don't know what your state laws are. Hope this helps "6pack".
Hey thanks guys for all the help. I got the bolts out and put in a new gasket. Started the truck and no change noisy as ever. I took a closer look and my exhaust manifold has a huge crack in it! Love it!
