I have a 97 F250 HD CrewCab, 4x4 with a efi 460. I use the truck for mainly camping, fishing type 4x4 (not major rock crawling) and hauling a car trailer about once a year. Most of the rest of the time is around the city and highways doing the usual errands.
I've seen the Bilsteins get good reviews, but have also seen other boards where the Ranchos were rated better due to their adjustability. Both have a lifetime warranty, according to Desert Rat (local retail stores).
I like the idea of Rancho, due to being able to soften them for most of the time and then bump them up for pulling the trailer or if go into heavier off road.
Like most I am partial to Bilstein due to receiving a few bad sets of Rancho. I have seen some have luck with their Rancho's, but not I. I have never had a set of Bilstein's let me down. Just my 2 cents.
I just put Bilsteins on my '01 a few months back. They are a good shock. For me I don't need the adjustability. iF you want to have the adjustibility go with the Ranchos. If you don't need that I would choose the Bilsteins over the Rancho's.
Bilsteins if you don't care about adjusting the shock.
Rancho if you do.
For me, I picked Ranchos, currently have one leaking, one adjuster stuck, and generally the paint is GONE from the road salt. Really horrible looking right now.
But I'd still go back for another set of 9000x's because I WANT the adjustability.
just do a google search - a bit ago 4 wheel parts had a rebate & Rancho on top of it...
Even then, sometimes just asking will get a discount from some dealers
good luck - love those 9000's - drop the shock to softest and bump the tire pressure to hardest and get the best of both worlds - good ride and good mpg...
