radiator question

radiator question
This may be a silly question but I dont want to break anything. I need to fix a leak in the radiator Ive got everything loose except the two lines to the tranny cooler. How do you get them off? I pulled the plastic keepers off they seem loose enough to pull out, but they wont. Do I need some special tool or is it ok to loosen the big nut and take them out that way. 2003 expedition, 4.6 v8 4x4. any help is greatly appreciated.

You are talking about the two stainless lines, correct? Those are the lines to the transmision. You can un-do the bolts and pull them off, but be prepared to catch however much trans-fluid is in the cooler. You will need to replace it when you are done (probably 2 quarts worth?)
If you aren't removing the radiator completely, you shouldn't need to remove the trans cooler.

I am replacing it. My brother got off work early and came home and pulled it today while I was at work. Turns out you do need one of those plastic tools to get them off. It was those two transmission lines, stainless steel. He said he didnt drain any fluid out of it so I will do that tonight and make sure I pick some more up when my new radiator come in. Thanks for your help.Thanks to all you guys for your seemingly unending hepl and advice. It really helps me out.
