plastic cover below radiator

I have a 2003 E 150 Chateau that has a shroud or cover below the engine and radiator that fell off. It is attached by 3 push in plastic pins which broke and i can't get them out. The cover is more to the right side of the motor/radiator above the sway bar. My question is do I need this shield and if so how do I get the fasteners out?

I think I know how to help but your photos would be better, for me anyway.

I lost mine like a year ago. Doesn't seem to bother it any. I think it's an air dam to force air in between the radiator and condenser

I don't think so Moosey. Looks more like a cover to protect the lower radiator hose. It's sorta in that area. I posted a picture.

That's a new part to me---never seen one on any van before---and I have an '03 E250 myself.

Not to pester you further but a closer photo of the fasteners left behind would be very helpful.

If they seem to have a Phillips head screw in the middle you'd simply unscrew that part about 3/8" and then use a standard clip removing tool like a Lisle #35400, looks like this:

If those fasteners have a smooth rounded over head they're also removed with the same tool.

That is a nice part to have in place I think but its absence probably isn't fatal---how long's it been missing so far?

Anyway hope this helps!

Thanks JWA. I destroyed the only fastener holding while removing the cover. They had a round smooth head and I have the tool you suggested. It's been off for about a week or so. The temp was about 6 when I tore it off. The barrels of the fasteners are stuck in the holes so when it gets warmer, like today, I may tackle it. BTW I am surprised you don't have one. Do you have the 5.4? Maybe only the 1/2 ton vans had it.

I do indeed have the 5.4---wouldn't own anything else in an E250 unless it was a V10! My '97. '00 & current '03 don't have anything like that part---have to check the salvage yards next trip.

I work at a salvage yard now lol. I'll give our stock of vans a peek and see what turns up. We have a 03 e150 and some older 150s up to a 05 450.
