hey, new to the forum. just finished building my 351C. the setup is as follows: .030 over flat top pistons(10.7:1), 4v heads, new valvetrain, hyd. lunati cam lift .525/.525 -dur. 242/244@.050" -LSA 108 degree, old school edelbrock torquer intake 600cfm edelbrock mech secondaries, msd 6AL box electronic dist. max angine RPM is about 6700. and to put the power to the ground im runnin an old toploader with a 9 inch and 4.56 gears. i keep fowling plugs, and it noses off real hard on the top end, any suggestions on tuning? thinking about a 650 holley dp?
thanks.
Yeah, sounds like my engine in my `69 Mustang tha I have tore down now. I have the Comp 280 Magnum cam and 9.3 TRW pistons,Torker,650 DP Holley, top loader,3.00 gears. Those heads like to breath deep and need at least a 650,I read somewhere that a 800 was good for street and 850 for racing.Did you put matching valve springs in it to match the cam ? I never liked the Edelbrock carbs, never had a good one.Opened one up one time and stuff went flying.
i forget the exact spring pressure but yeah i got springs to match the cam. any ideas on the plugs fowling? do you think 91 octane is enough? but yeah edelbrocks are junk it seems. i may go with a holley 750 DP and just mess with jets if i have to

It`s runnin` too rich @ low speeds, spark plugs need to be hotter.I was running Accel`s header plugs,I think they were RC 12`s or something like that. Also I was running Hooker Super Competition headers w/3.5 to 3" Terminators,it`s gotta breath. That could be your problem, got headers?
with that compression and iron heads you should be running as hi of octane you can, make sure your timing is advanced enough also. i would try these along with some different temp plugs.
yeah ive got headers, they are 1 7/8" primaries, 3" collectors. exhaust reduces to 2 1/2" pipes into flowmaster 40's. ill try plugs, she seemed to pul harder with out the mufflers but maybe its just me.
pump in town should be fine. on the track i would run the good juice.
with your setup you should be running 3" exhaust all the way out. I would also run a different muffler. going to a freer flowing exhaust would help lean things out a bit to.
I may end up just getting rid of the mufflers for the time being til i can weld up some different pipes, getting front tires and a tach on monday. ill be running the 1/4 on the 17th, hoping to see at least low 14's.
