The wife and I were considering getting rid of our DISH network. The problem is, there are a few channels that we would hate to give up, such as discovery, history, comedy, usa to name a few. We're just tired of the $65 bill every month. Was wondering if there are any internet alternatives to these channels, that are cheaper, or free.
A very good question. I would like to know that as well.
There is a guy on ebay selling software for $7.49 that he says will get you up to 9000 channels of internet TV and there are sites like premiumtvonpc.com that claim 5000 channels. However I know nothing about either, maybe someone on here does?
Yeah I got tired of my near $100 every month bill and clicking thru hundreds of channels every night with nothing to watch.
Now we use Netflix for rental videos delivered as fast as we return the watched one, plus internet video feeds of movies and recorded TV. About $18/month for 3 videos at home any time. You can also buy a box that will play Netflix selections right on your TV instead of the computer. No extra charge to watch stuff. Just $99 one time for the box. www.netflix.com
Also, Hulu.com has a lot of current TV shows and recorded shows and movies for FREE. My kid watches all the latest releases of Comedy channel and Battle Star, 24, Grays Anatomy etc shows as soon as they come out. He is even ahead of us since Netflix releases the DVDs later than the TV shows are playing. Hulu is very good if you can find what you want to watch. Just a couple 30 second commercials per show. www.hulu.com
We don't get broadcast TV since we are at the fringe, and no satellite because I am cheap, but with Netflix and Hulu, we have plenty to watch.
For those who have satellite and cable is not a legitimate option, how do you get your internet? It's been years since I was forced to use dial-up, but I can't imagine download speeds have improved enough to watch videos from Hulu. Just curious.

I'm watching episod13 season 7 of Family Guy on Hulu.com right now
Yyou can sometimes improve hulu etc by pausing it, and letting it buffer the vid for a while. I've got an RF DSL, and it helps. I would think it would help dial up a lot more
